If your Mac is your main working machine, you will eventually find that most of its storage space is occupied by the files that you have downloaded. It is really easy to download a large file, use it only one time, and forget to delete it. If you think there are some large files stored on your Mac but you just do not know where they are located, you can use the Mac's search feature to find those files. That way, you can find and delete those large files and make some space available for new ones. The question is: how do you find those files? Well, there's a way.

Mac's built-in Finder app lets you search for the files according to the given criteria. For example, you can ask the app to show you the files that are larger than 3GB and were created on a specified date. It helps you find the exact files you wish to see and delete.

Since our aim is to find the large files, here's how you can use Finder to do that:

Finding Large Files on a Mac

The first step is to open Finder. To do that, simply go to your desktop and you should see Finder in the top left corner.

Click on the 'File' menu followed by 'Find.' Alternatively, you can press the 'Command + F' shortcut to bring up the search menu.

When the search window opens, select 'Kind' from the first drop-down menu and then select 'Other' from the menu that follows it.

Click on the 'Plus' icon given in the window, and it will add a new attribute for you to search files with. This time select 'File Size' from the first drop-down menu and then select 'is greater than' from the second drop-down menu.

You should now see a box where you can enter the size for the files. It will search for the files that are greater than this size. You also have an option to choose either KB, MB, or GB. Usually, the files that are in GBs are considered large, so choosing the GB option would be more appropriate than any other.

Enter any size in the given box, and you should see the results instantly.

So here you can see all of the files that are larger than the specified size. You can now choose to either keep or delete these files. The fastest way to delete them is to right-click on them and select 'Move to Trash' and then empty the trash.

You can play around with various options to find the exact files you want to delete from your Mac. Maybe the file you downloaded last week was somewhere around 4GB?
